Pugsley, our 13 foot, 100+ pound Python, is our largest snake and came to Wild Wonders from an educator specifically to continue as an education ambassador.  This fellow is still growing and we expect him to reach over 19 feet and more than 200 lbs.  Pugsley needed a permanent home, and Wild Wonders was very pleased to give him one.  He is mild tempered and obviously enjoys being part of our school programs to get his enrichment and exercise.  Pugsley also gets regular walks, or slithers around our wildlife center, and loves the warmth of the sun and all the great outdoor smells.   He is a favorite participant in many of our onsite tours and camps.

Although Pugsley is a very friendly and laid back snake, these snakes do not make good pets because of their size.  There are not many homes that can easily house such a large snake, and many of these pets are released in the wild when they grow too large.  Unfortunately, over 1500 have been captured in the Florida Everglades alone as of December. 2009.  Since pythons have been known to eat endangered birds and alligators, these snakes present a new danger to an already fragile ecosystem.
