Archimedes, aka “Archie”, our great horned owl, came to Wild Wonders in the summer of 2009 from a rehabilitation center. He needed a home and it was their hope that he could become an animal-ambassador for wildlife education programs. He was a spring hatch-ling that fell out of his nest and had such extensive injuries they decided he was non-releasable. He had to have around the clock care to nurse him back to health. Once Archie was stable Wild Wonder’s dedicated staff was able to begin socialization and training to help him become an important animal-ambassador. It took many months but the training paid off and Archie has become an amazing education ambassador for his wild cousins in our Big Backyard programs. He loves his daily carnivore dinners and is very curious about the outside activities around his enclosure. Archie even has a special wild feathered friend that comes to visit him nightly and we can often hear them hooting their greeting to each other. Archie loves to fly, and last year, with help from his adopters Archie was able to move into a new flight cage.
