Infested With Roaches

Its the good kind. Though, I’m not sure that everyone feels that way.

I’m taking about our Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches!

They may seem like a weird animal to have at the facility but they can be a really big crowd pleaser. When we go to shows we often pick kids out of the audience to get up close and personal with these little guys. I can understand why most adults would not appreciate a cockroach crawling on them but kids love them.

They are obviously from Madagascar but the interesting thing about them is that they make a hissing sound. They are able to make this hissing noise by pushing gas through the breathing pores that are located on their abdomen. Not only can they make a hissing sound but they have two different sounds that they can make. One is a disturbance hiss and the other is made by males and is a fighting hiss. Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches are wingless and are not aggressive so, they make our job pretty easy when it comes to taking care of them.

What do you think?
