Sweet as Sugar

Volunteers and staff have been working hard training the smallest furry creatures at Wild Wonders- Australian sugar gliders!  These little critters are shy, so need lots of love and treats to help them feel comfortable with being handled and going to shows.  As long as craisens and meal worms are involved, they are pretty happy to hang out with their trainers.  Here is one of the little guys during today’s training session.

More Painting!

Today Raji the Binturong decided to try her hand at some artwork. Here are some pictures of her at work with help from her friends!

Binturongs are related to the Mongoose. They come from the rainforests of Southeast Asia and live up in the trees. They have a prehensile tail that allows them to balance as they climb. Binturongs are a unique animal because they have a scent gland that smells just like buttered popcorn!

Schedule a facility tour to meet Raji and the rest of our animals! www.wildwonders.org

Halloween Treats

Fall & Halloween are exciting times of the year for the animals at Wild Wonders.  The staff & volunteers make the Halloween season a big event. Hidden inside those orange pumpkin heads are a variety of yummy treats for the animals to find.  Foraging is a natural behavior for many wild animals & figuring out the best technique to get to the good stuff is definitely a unique effort for each animal.  Coatis use those long raccoon-like claws to reach in search for the goodies as they would in tree trunks in the wild.  The foxes, however, are more shredders & biters, they want to get to the treats FAST!

Our 1st Annual Safari Scramble was a success!

We would like to thank everyone who participated in our 1st annual safari scramble golf tournament! The event was a big success and we raised nearly 12.000 dollars! The proceeds will go towards the medical bills of our 150 animal ambassadors living on the compound. All of our ambassador scaly or furry, big or small, are just as important to us as any other and with your help we can provide them the care they need and deserve.  Stay tuned for pictures of the event!

She’s Bringin’ the Love

Our little porcupine, Penelopea, has really come out of her shell.  The timid little girl that came to us two weeks ago now waddles enthusiastically out of her quarantine enclosure when we come in with treats.  Then it’s right up on our lap for bites of corn and sweet potato.  She is also letting us touch her back, which is great practice for future programs!

Yay, Penelopea!

Meet The Artist!

For our 1st annual Safari Scramble golf tournament coming up this Saturday, Victor decided to make some art! He “paw painted” with watercolors and made some beautiful artwork. The proceeds from the sale of his art will go to Zoofari, the foundation that helps care for all of our animals.

Here are some pictures of Victor making art, with a little help from his friends.

He had so much fun, he inspired some of our other animals to become artists too!! Check back for more fun pictures and join us at the golf tournament to buy one of your own! Even if you’re not a golfer, you can attend the dinner and meet Victor and other animal ambassadors in person.

Another New Addition

Allow me to introduce you to Rocky, a Great Horned Owl and our newest addition to Wild Wonders. Rocky and his little brother fell out of the nest at only 4 weeks of age and sadly the fall was too much for his brother and he passed away. Rocky on the other hand made his way to a rescue center and was touch and go for a while but fought through it all, hence the name “Rocky” a true fighter.

Since Rocky has made it through his rough patch and is headed for a turn around, he is in need of a new name that better represents his new life. Please send your name ideas to wildwonders@att.net, Twitter, or Facebook. We will announce his new name on Facebook in about a week. If you haven’t become a friend of Wild Wonders, please visit us at Facebook and Twitter (www.facebook.com/Wild.Wonders and www.twitter.com/zoofari) for all the great updates.

Finn is becoming a big boy!

Finn, our baby Fennec Fox, has gotten a lot bigger.

He is almost ready to join the other two Fennec Foxes we have in their outdoor enclosure. We have been taking him down everyday now to introduce the three of them. Flick and Frankie seem to be quite excited about the new arrival and so far there hasn’t been any problems.

We hope to move Finn in there soon. When we get some pictures of the three of them together, we will post them for everyone to see.
