Event-New Year’s Party

New Year’s is quietly approaching and if you are sitting around trying to think of something clever for this special occasion we have the perfect idea.

Wild Wonders/Zoofari is having a giant get-together at the Weins Winery in Temecula. It is sure to be a lot of fun. There will be food, wine, champagne, live entertainment, a midnight toast, a silent auction and of course special guest appearances by our furry friends. What more could you ask for?

Temecula is full of great hotels and shops to truly make a day of it. So take a break and enjoy.

This is sure to be the party of all parties. It will be a great chance to start 2009 off right. Please come by and help support our animals and of course conservation. Tickets can be purchase on the Weins Winery website or by visiting zoofari’s webpage. Don’t miss this chance of a life time.

You wouldn’t want to miss out on a chance to JUNGLE BOOGIE into 2009.

Bad Weather- The Big FREEZE

Recently in Southern California a huge storm rolled though. With this storm came tons of rain and extremely cold temperatures. This morning when it was 37 degrees outside, the staff embarked on their usual rounds. The staff was bundled up in fleece sweaters and warm boots. As they made there was to the reptiles they realized the heater had blown. All 4 alligator were sitting in 35 degree water and Big T’s, the tortoise’s, home was 40 degrees and he wasn’t moving.

Quickly the quiet compound turned to chaos. It was a race to get all the reptiles into the warm barn and heat them up. You cannot warm a reptile up to quickly as it will cause their system to go into shock. So there they all sat in the barn surrounded by heaters. We are all hoping for the best. Often with extreme cold these reptiles can develop an upper respiratory infection and they are not the easiest to medicate.

The frost this morning caused a lot of upset to many animals but there are a few that love this weather. Sitka, the Arctic fox and Tino and Tiani, the lynxes, couldn’t be more excited. They are almost at home in this bitterly cold weather.

With the constant need for heat it is important that the electricity is always working. And in a time of a budget crunch it is important to prioritize. It you would like to help out with vet bills, food, supplies, or electrical rewiring, donations are always welcome.

Thanks

Playtime with Tiani Lynx

Tiani, the lynx, and I started our relationship when she was only 4 weeks old. I raised her from an adorable little kitten. You can’t believe she was ever that small.

Here is a video of Tiani throwing around her big thumper feet. We call her large adorable feet, her snow shoes. Lynx live in the high snowy hills and are well adapted for great cold weather and lots of snow.

Holiday Party

Private Tour for Staff and Volunteers

Private Tour for Staff and Volunteers

This Sunday the Gang hosted a Fantastic Holiday Party as a thank you for all the staff, volunteers, and their families. The food was fabulous and the day turned out to be beautiful, even though it was fore-casted to rain.

After filling our bellies with food, Kim and Jackie gave all of us a great up close and personal tour. Each animal has their own story and to hear it from the people who know them best, is always so exciting.

Above is a picture of the group as they are mesmerized by Raji the Binturong. She loves her grapes but on that particular day she seemed to forget that she is a tree dweller and for some reason wasn’t willing to climb the branch for some treats. Sometimes they have their days and there is nothing you can do about it. That is the joy of working with animals.

Great Response

Again a big thanks to the Union Tribune for their article this Friday. Thanks to the article and our kind fans, donations have been coming in.

Each donation will make a huge difference in food, shelter, and medical care for all our animals.

Thank you too all of those who made a donations and those who still plan to.

The article was also a great success in secure tours for the near future and promoting a our unique birthday party programs.  Lets keep on a role and start 2009 off right.
