Gifts for Primates

Animals like to receive gifts, too!  Our little Mozart, a cotton-topped tamarin, enjoyed his specially-wrapped box of meal worms given by volunteer Micha this holiday season.  It turns out that raisen boxes are perfect for gift-wrapping presents for tiny primates!

You, too, can provide a gift to our primates during this season of giving!  Donations big and small go a long way in helping animals like Mozart live healthy, happy lives.  Happy Holidays!

She’s Bringin’ the Love

Our little porcupine, Penelopea, has really come out of her shell.  The timid little girl that came to us two weeks ago now waddles enthusiastically out of her quarantine enclosure when we come in with treats.  Then it’s right up on our lap for bites of corn and sweet potato.  She is also letting us touch her back, which is great practice for future programs!

Yay, Penelopea!

Prickly but Sweet

Penelopea isn't concerned with her first photo-shoot. Just keep bringing on the goodies!

Our little Penelopea is starting to warm up to us.  She welcomed a photo shoot yesterday as she munched on a favorite treat- corn on the cob!  Sweet potato is also a new favorite.  Enjoy the new pics!

And remember, little munchkins like this rely on community support!  There is still time to register for the up-coming golf tournament to benefit the animals at Wild Wonders/Zoofari.

Keeping Up to Date

As fellow animal lovers, we are always looking for new and inventive ways to help animals recover quickly from injuries. It is great to share stories and trial with either other to make sure we are all up to date on the latest and greatest ways to help our beloved animals.

Check out this video on a lion cubs that has a unique way to recover from a leg injury.

A Happy Ending

On Tuesday, June 30th we had an unexpected guest at our animal facility.

Zoofari/Wild Wonders played host to a Yellow-Bellied Marmot who had mysteriously made its way 8 hours from its home in the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness area of the Sierra National Forest.

Luckily, the Marmot will be returned to its natural habitat in the Sierra National Forest this weekend in hopes that it will find its way home.

In Case You Missed It!!

Here is a great NBC 7/39 in case you missed it.

Kim, the Senior Zookeeper always does such a fantastic job.

Chloe, the Coati, opens up the show with her silly coughing. Opps looks like we put the mic to close to her face.

Soy, one of 9 hedgehogs at Wild Wonders, is definitely one of the sweetest. She is always easy to pick up and rarely curls in a ball. Trust me you don’t want these awesome creatures to curl up, the sting from the prick can last a while.

Lucy, our snapping turtle, moves so slowly that algae has grown on her. It isn’t harmful to her skin or health but it definitely funny to look it. The algae helps her blend in and keeps her safe from predators (But I am not sure who would try to attack an animal with such a crazy looking shell, she looks so prehistoric)

Will keep you posted!!
