Binturong Lunch Time!

Today Patrick, one of our volunteers, and I went into Baloo and Raji’s enclosure to hand feed them their PM diet.  They loooove the fruit so they eat that up right away. Then when the fruit’s all gone they’ll go for the monkey chow.  They save the veggies like string beans and broccoli for last like some picky eaters I know!

Check out the video!

Extra Love

All of our animals were showing some extra love today. Olivia our owl monkey decided to take a ride on one of keepers backs while the keeper cleaned her enclosure. She was feeling a little needy today and wanted some extra love and attention. Flick and Finn our Fennec foxes had some socialization today, and both of them were loving the attention. Finn wanted scratches and Flick wanted to cuddle.Lou the Owl Monkey loved getting some scratches today!

Its Time for Some BE!

Behavior Enrichment (BE) is very important to the animals here at Zoofari in order to make sure that they are constantly being stimulated everyday. Today, BE consisted of paper bags and boxes stuffed with shredded newspaper and a few hidden treats, along with some special scents. Take a look at some of the animals trying to get to their treats!

Changing the Gator Ponds

Today was another busy, fun-filled day here at Zoofari.  After our regular feeding and cleaning routine was over we decided it was time to clean the gator ponds.  We try to clean them out about once a week to keep our alligators happy.

Here is Cajon’s pond before we cleaned it out:

Look at all the green algae!

He loves playing in the water while we fill his pond!

And finally, look how happy Cajun is in his nice clean pond!

Snakes Get Walks Too?

Some are only used to walking their dogs, but here at Zoofari even our snakes get to go out for some exercise. They love soaking up the hot sun while stretching out their long bodies. Gomez, Maizy and Pugsly all had a nice relaxing walk in the sun today.

Kookaburra Sits In The Old Gum Tree

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Merry merry king of the bush is he
Laugh Kookaburra, laugh Kookaburra
Gay your life must be

Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree
Eating all the gumdrops he can see
Stop Kookaburra, stop Kookaburra
Leave some gums for me

Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree
Counting all the monkeys he can see
Stop Kookaburra, stop Kookaburra
That’s no monkey, that’s…a Kinkajou!
